Most of us would say that this commandment is not relevant to my life. Yet we have all committed murder in our hearts (Matthew 5:21-22)! Jesus declares that anger and slander are equivalent to murder in the sight of God. Anger is at the root of murder and from God’s perspective deserves the same punishment. No one can honestly claim to have never been angry at another person. So by God’s judgment we are all murderers in His eyes. We see again in the sixth commandment that these are not a ladder on which we climb to God. They are a mirror in which we see our sinfulness and our need of a Savior.
