Father’s Day

This week we are celebrating our godly fathers. Being a father is a great privilege and an even greater responsibility. Psalm 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.” Children are a gift from God entrusted by Him to their parents. Fortunately as fathers we have a perfect example to follow “God our Father”, Romans 1:7. Paul uses that phrase eleven times in his epistles. Also God is called “Father”
65 times in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke and 100 times in the Gospel of John. We would be wise to model the parenting of our
children after God’s parenting of us His children. God is neither permissive nor abusive nor neglectful. Children do not come with an instruction manual attached because God has already provided one, the Bible. Scripture reveals through precept and example how to be a godly father. We are considering one such passage this week. Ephesians 6:4, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”
